Just discovered something and HAD TO share it - I always resisted spraying of any sort, but the weeds in our gravel driveway are a constant battle. Someone told me recently to use plain white vinegar - thought it would never work, but just tested it - sprayed it on the weeds and they were dead in a day! Who would believe it ? Just had to share this!

Charlotte - It's amazing what simple solutions do for us! The acid in the vinegar definitely will kill the plants and can be a good organic solution. It can acidify your soil too but if the area you are spraying is not used for growing crops (like your graveled area!) there is nothing to worry about and even if it is a crop growing area - light use is not likely to modffy the soil ph very much.

Ive tried vinegar on weeds in the driveway cracks...then a few days later some rock salt. Nothing worked. Of course, it rains every 11 minutes here in the beautiful PNW. So, I'm not too surprised.

I came across the vinegar trick last summer. The trick is to spray it on when the plant will be in the sun. I sprayed my walkway--half shade, half sun--and only the weeds that were exposed to sun got fried.
