Ran across this site and had to join! I live in central Kansas on a small family operated orchard. Daughter attended college and is now serving in the Navy, so it's just us! I enjoyed your photo and how-to sections; I am the visual type. We have l/2 acre of asparagus, lost our peach crop this year due to vociferous winds Friday, but have apples galore so far and pumpkins/squash in the fall. Everything we sell we sell off the property. Folks come to our small stone building and buy; in the fall we let them pick apples and pumpkins. Had blackberries, but the money wasn't conducive to the outlay of time, so we yanked them out this winter and kept l row for hubby. Upside is we have wonderful rows to plant potaotes, sweet potatoes, etc. and the 'inbetween' where the blackberies were have trellis system, so climbing lima's and green beens along with wide rows of beets, spinach, kale, squash, etc. Looking forward to catching up on the forum and blog here! | |
