Has anyone tried this? The note I received from Seed Savers Exchange that came with our seed potatoes talked about doing a second planting of potatoes as late as June 15 for a late harvest and extended storing time. Anyone in Zone 8b had success with this?

I am sure that would work but I have never done that. I want my potatoes all ready by early fall so I can lift them at one time and store them. Staggering a second harvest would help provide a longer fresh harvest season.

I tried this lasy year and it worked okay butt I felt like I rushed the first planting and could have left them in the ground a little longer. I also felt like the second planting didn't finish as well as it could. This year the potatoes in my garden are staying in the ground for longer and will be my storage potatoes. I also have several old recycling containers that I will plant with potatoes. I will probably get two plantings from them. I like to eat the container potatoes fresh and the "in ground " potatoes for storage.

I did a second planting last year and it worked fine and I did still have storage potatoes from that harvest until a few wekks ago ,like Larry, I felt that I hurried my first crop. This year I'm going to use my potato boxes and a second, smaller raised bed that I've planned to be available in mid-June for a second crop.
