Im considering making a cold cloche to get the lettuce and broccoli off to an early 2010 season...as I type this I have lettuce growing inside under 40 watt lights. They wont be ready until January...maybe February - should I decide to put them into some (cold!) ground. So, as I settle in to what is a frosty evening...Im wondering what any of y'all have tried to get your jumpstart on the growing season. Your thoughts?

I definitely use a grow tunnel cover on my beds in the spring to get a jump on the season, but I have also found a simple cover over some vegetable ladders laid flat over bed is just as effective in most circumstances and less trouble to put up and take down. Here is a link to one of my blog posts from March where I have pictures of what I am talking about.
Good work with the lettuce Jim! Hopefully we will have an early and mild spring this year so we can all get a leap on the growing season.

I like this idea...simple and easy to put up/ take down. Curious though...what thickness plastic did you use? Do you remember? Either way it looks very strightforward. Kudos for the link.

I think it is 6 mil thickness (maybe 4?).
