Colorful Gifts of Love

Posted on August 28, 2008 at 11:00 PM

This morning I harvested a head of purple cabbage and a bunch of carrots to take to my sister and her husband.  We were heading to their place for a cup of coffee (or three!) and a long overdue visit - catching up on what was happening in each of our lives.

As can be seen in the photo,  the vibrant colors of the carrots and cabbage are quite beautiful to look at - and those gorgeous hues give away that they contain powerful nutrition.

The color of vegetables and fruits not only make them look pretty on a plate, but also indicates the presence of strong antioxidants and other nutrients that provide protection from specific medical conditions.  So, I think you can see that this was not just a small gift of some extra garden bounty -  but also an expression of love.  A desire for their continued good health and well being.  This same message of love and concern is dished out on a daily basis to my husband and daughter when I  prepare our family meals, using a variety of wholesome foods grown fresh in the garden.

Life is richer and more flavorful when it has real "color" -  and the same can be said for our food!

Thanks Sinfonian! It was overdue to start a site as I had items all over the web in various locations - and it really needed to be brought together. I have lots of ideas in mind to make the site interesting and kept fresh. Come visit once in a while and see what evolves!

I visit the blogs I read at least once a week, more often if they're updated regularly. I find many garden buddies don't update their blogs. I use mine for myself first and foremost to keep tabs of what's going on for next year, hehe, but I've got a few hundred regular readers now. It's funny that anyone cares. I'll check back often!
