Video - Late Summer Garden Tour (Part 4)

Posted on August 25, 2011 at 8:45 AM

On Sunday, I made a series of five videos that collectively provide a full tour of my garden.   I will be posting these one per day starting Monday and wrapping it up on Friday.   It’s Thursday so we are on the fourth video today.

Honestly, considering how cool your season has been I am surprised that you are getting corn...congrats. We also grew legend tomatoes this year, I need to go and take a look at them and see how they are doing. Question?... approximately when is your tomato season over...ours is usually (not always) done come mid September depending upon frost.

Mike - I am surprised the corn has fared this well and I would attribute it to the fact that I started them indoors and they were good sized when I transplanted them out. To answer your question, our tomato season usually wraps up in mid September as well - it's not frost that gets them though - it's the return of heavier rain and colder night time temps. The combo brings all sorts of fungus and molds and the tomato plants just kind of molder in place when the weather turns chill and wet.
